BLANK IS THE NEW BLACK is a creative studio located in Chicago, Illinois.
We are a small operation, or in fancy terms “a boutique studio”, which allows us to work with a large range of clients and budgets. We keep an eye on new trends in design, but always choose smart design over fashionable design. With expertise in both print and web design, we’re always looking for new challenges and interesting projects, even if it means having to create them ourselves.

When he was 10 years old, Thomas Quinn could draw a pencil-rendered photorealistic collage of Bo Jackson that had people (or maybe just his family) drawing comparisons to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. Inspired by Bo Jackson’s ability to play both baseball and football professionally, Thomas studied fine art and illustration while majoring in graphic design at the Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating, Thomas returned to Chicago, where he has lived for most of his life. He specializes in print and web design, but also dabbles in painting, typeface design, and beard growing. If you show even the slightest interest in hockey, he will gladly talk your ear off about the Blackhawks.

In 1996, Kevin Greene set an NFL record with five consecutive multi-sack games and finished leading the NFL in sacks for the second time in three years with 14.5. This is not that Kevin Greene. But it was around the same time that this one went to high school in St. Louis. There, he was known for having hobbies that heavily consisted of exploring and making things just outside the realm of AOL. He honed his web development skills while getting a degree in Japanese from the University of Kansas and then while teaching in Japan for a few years. He likes to study the latest in technology but if he has learned anything, it is not to cheer for the Cardinals within the city limits of Chicago.

Mollie is a photographer and designer currently living and working in Chicago. She fine tuned her design skills at Morningstar before turning freelance, and clocks in when we need additional design horsepower. She likes root beer and riding bikes at night. She is also learning the fiddle.

Ryan is an illustrator and a comic artist responsible for God Hates Astronauts, the best web comic money can’t buy. He helps out whenever we need a bona fide illustrator on a project. He has a habit of trying to do everything you aren’t allowed to do in every video game he plays.
